Delhi courtroom sentences 284 foreign Tablighi Jamaat participants from 21 nations

A Delhi court on Thursday (July 16) sentenced as many as 284 foreign Tablighi Jamaat members from 21 countries to stand till rise of the court. The Saket court, where the charge sheet in the case was filed on July 6, also slapped these Jamaat members with a fine of 5 to 10 thousand rupees. According to reports, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police submitted the charge sheet against the Tablighi Jamaat members from 21 countries for violating the rules in the wake of coronavirus lockdown imposed in the national capital. A committee of officers set up to suggest ways to boost Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue has proposed a two-slab structure of 10% and 20%, besides a higher rate on luxury and sin goods; imposition of cess on items such as cosmetics, gambling and recreational services; and withdrawal of exemptions on public school education, high-end healthcare facilities and air-conditioned public transport. The 23-year-old UP law student, who accused BJP leader Chinmayanand of sexual assault, has been arrested on a charge of extortion by the special team probing the case. The law student had moved a local court for protection against arrest but did not get any immediate relief.
