WhatsApp is working on a new update that will make its web app even better. The ability to make voice and video calls on WhatsApp Web is currently being worked on, and it’s expected to be made available soon. WhatsApp currently supports voice and video calls only on its mobile app.

WhatsApp Web lets you do almost all the important things you can on the mobile app. But it does lack some features like voice and video call support, adding new contacts, and more. According to WABetaInfo, call support on WhatsApp Web is expected to release in the coming weeks at least for public beta users. It also released screenshots of how the feature will look on WhatsApp Web.

A new pop-up window will appear on the screen when there’s an incoming call. You can choose to accept or decline the call from WhatsApp Web itself. When you make a call on WhatsApp Web a smaller window will pop-up with actions to end the call, switch to video, turn off microphone, and a menu button. WABetaInfo confirms that group voice and video calls are also supported in this update.

There’s no word on when this feature will roll out but it looks like it won’t be very long till we get it. This is a major development for WhatsApp Web, and especially at a time when video conferencing and meetings are hugely popular due to work from home. WhatsApp Web will be an easier way for users to quickly make calls from the desktop without having to switch to their phones.
