Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday visited businessman Amit Singhania’s building at Police Bazar in Shillong which was completely burnt down in a massive fire that broke out on Saturday.
The four-storey building which had several godowns and housed the family of Singhanias was ravaged in the incident on Saturday.
“The Meghalaya Chief Minister also reviewed the entire incident with the Chief Secretary, DGP and other high-ranking officials,” an official statement said.

In a post on X (former Twitter), Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “Inspected the site of the recent fire incident in Thana Road, Police Bazar. The building being a godown and its location in a congested commercial area posed a great challenge for the Emergency Response Team who worked round the clock to douse the fire and ensure adjacent commercial and personal properties were not affected. The Fire Department, @IAF_MCC @adgpi @official_dgar @MeghalayaPolice and @DC_EKH put in all their hard work and with their joint efforts, the fire was contained, avoiding further loss of life and property.”
Police said that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. One person died in the incident and a police constable was admitted to a hospital after getting injured. (ANI)
