Five people have got new life due to the organ donation of a brain dead woman at Command Hospital Southern Command (CHSC) in Pune city of Maharashtra. Two army personnel are also among these people who have received life donation.

“The organ donation by a young brain-dead woman has saved the lives of five people, including two serving Army soldiers, at the CHSC in Pune,” Defense Public Relations Officer told news agency ANI.

According to the officer, the woman was brought to the hospital at the end of her life after an unfortunate incident. By the time he was admitted to the hospital, he was brain-dead. Her family wished that the woman’s organs be donated to the patients who are in dire need of them.

He further added, “Visible organs like kidney were transplanted in two serving soldiers of Indian Army, eyes were preserved at CH(HC) – Eye Bank of Armed Forces Medical College campus and liver at Ruby Hall Clinic (Pune) given to a patient.

This 34-year-old woman was the wife of a soldier who had recently retired from the army. He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, where he was declared brain dead and after that his family members agreed to donate his organs.

After this, the transplant team was activated at the command hospital including Lt Col Bhaskar Dutt, Lt Col Sudeep Prakash, Surgeon Col Bharat and Lt Col Abhishek Shukla, Anesthesiologist Lt Col Akhil Goyal and Zonal Transplantation Coordination Center (Regional Transplant Coordination Centre) and An alert was sent to the Army Organ Retrieval and Transplant Authority (Army Organ Retrieval and Transplant Authority).

Brigadier Goyal told the English newspaper that there are at least two lakh people in the country who need organ transplant due to various reasons. However, he also pointed out that less than 10% of patients get organs.
