In a sudden turn of events, celebrations turned into mourning after the newlywed bride died of a heart attack as she cried inconsolably during her ‘bidaai’ while leaving for her in-laws’ house. The incident was reported from Sonepur district of Odisha and the bride has been identified as Gupteswari Sahoo aka Rosy.

The deceased, Rosy Sahu, of Julunda village tied the knot with Bisikesan of Tetelgaon village, on Friday in Balangir district.

As her parents were preparing to send her off to her in-laws during her ‘bidaai’ after the wedding rituals, Rosy continued to cry, fainted, and collapsed on the ground. Rosy’s family members and relatives tried to revive her by massaging her hands and spraying water on her face.

When all attempts by her family members failed, Rosy was immediately taken to Dunguripali Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctors declared her brought dead. Her body was handed over to her family after postmortem.

A resident of Julunda village said Rosy had lately been in distress as she had lost her father a few months ago. It was her maternal uncle’s family and some social workers who had organized the wedding.
