US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) disease on Friday. “We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” said Trump as he made the announcement on Twitter.

This comes after President Trump’s top aide Hope Hicks tested positive for the viral disease.

Hicks serves as Trump’s counselor and is one of the closest aide. She has been travelling with the Trump for rallies ahead of presidential polls.

Hicks has been travelling with the US President for the presidential campaign. On Tuesday, she flew with Trump on Air Force One, presidential helicopter, to Cleveland for the presidential debate. On Wednesday they travelled to Minnesota for a campaign rally.

However, it is not confirmed yet whether Trump contracted the virus from Hicks.

Before Hicks, several other White House staffers including Katie Miller, Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary, national security adviser Robert O’Brien, and one of the president’s personal valets have tested positive for Covid-19 and recovered in the past.

The deadly virus has infected more than 7.2 million Americans and killed more than 200,000 people.
