After more than 60 days without new COVID-19 cases in Brunei, the 74th Birthday Celebration of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah will be held as scheduled, the Bruneian government said on Monday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that one of the most popular events of Celebration Night Market will be held on July 15-31 in the country’s four districts.

The ministry also urged all operators of the night market to follow directives made by the government to prevent the outbreak of a new wave of the pandemic.

The Bruneian government has also said that religious events for the occasion will be starting Tuesday.

Since Brunei reported its first COVID-19 case in mid-March, the country has cancelled or postponed most of the national events. The sultan’s birthday celebration will the first national event held after the country has controlled the outbreak.

However, the feast may differ from that of previous years, with no sign of holding the most symbolic events such as celebration parade and the “meet-and-greet” event.

Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Monday with the national tally of cases standing at 141.

It marked the 67th consecutive day without new cases since May 7.

There have been three deaths resulted from COVID-19 in Brunei and a total of 138 patients have recovered. Enditem
