Uttarakhand registered a record number of 4,807 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday. While 34 patients succumbed to the disease, a total of 894 patients were discharged from hospitals after being cured on the same day.The State now has 24,893 active Covid cases with a sample positivity rate of 3.91 per cent and recovery percentage of 78.

More than 18,000 new cases have been reported in the past seven days while a total of 1953 persons have died from the disease in Uttarakhand so far.

The State Government is working to augment the treatment facilities and has also launched a telemedicine and virtual OPD facility. Apart from this, stricter control measures have been put in place including extended hours of night curfew, complete lockdown on Sunday, closing of all non essential commercial establishments at 2 pm and entry for people of other states on presentation of Covid negative report.

Dehradun district was the biggest contributor to the tally, recording the highest number of 1,876 cases, followed by Nainital (818), Haridwar (786), Udham Singh Nagar (602), Pauri (217) and Tehri (185), it said. Almora (99), Uttarkashi (75), Chamoli (61) and Rudraprayag (52) were the other districts to report a large number of cases.
