Former Uttarakhand minister Rajendra Bahuguna has committed suicide. Bahuguna was accused of molesting her granddaughter by her daughter-in-law, being hurt by this, she climbed the water tank and shot herself. He was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act after Bahuguna’s daughter-in-law had accused him of molesting her granddaughter, Haldwani’s circle officer (CO) Bhupinder Singh Dhoni said.

Dhoni said, ‘Another case was registered against him on the complaint of the neighbor Savita, in which Savita had alleged that when she goes for a walk with her mother-in-law, the accused assaults her besides abusing and threatening her. Before committing suicide, Bahuguna had called the police on number 112, then climbed on the water tank and committed suicide with a pistol. The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the daughter-in-law after her suicide.

Dhoni told, ‘A police team reached the spot and after a long conversation, Bahuguna refused to get down from the tank. Then suddenly he took the gun and shot himself in the chest. Thereafter, he was taken to the hospital and several attempts were made to save his life but he died.” When asked about the possible reason for the suicide, the CO said the reason was not yet clear but he was disturbed by the case and the allegations.

Rajendra Bahuguna was associated with the Congress for life, he also held high positions in many other organizations including the Roadways Association. Uttarakhand Roadways employee Bahuguna was given the status of Minister of State in the first elected government of the state in 2002.
