DEHRADUN: A day after the Uttarakhand government issued orders of statewide lockdown of non-essential services, many residents were seen in large numbers, even creating situation of traffic jams at some places, causing problems for the cops who kept persuading them to stay at home in view of the Covid-19 threat.
A large number of people in cars and two-wheelers were seen near the Clock Tower, one of the busiest intersections of the city, on Monday morning. Some were seen entering into arguments with police personnel stationed there who tried to stop them.

Speaking to TOI, deputy inspector general (DIG)/senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun Arun Mohan Joshi said, “The order says that people can go out to buy essential items like groceries, vegetables and milk. However, if anyone is found on the road without valid reason, strict action is being taken under relevant sections.”

CM Trivendra Rawat, meanwhile, asked officials to strictly enforce the lockdown. In a message on Monday, Rawat said that the lockdown has been put into force for the safety of people and urged residents to co-operate with authorities and remain in their homes till March 31.
