Membrane made from sugarcane juice to be used in sensor Dehradun, 3 Sept. A scientist from the Graphic Era has given a unique gift to the world. Scientist Dr. Wariz Panwar has prepared such a membrane from sugarcane juice which will dissolve after a few months. This very cheap membrane used in filters, sensors, etc. has also been patented. Dr. Wariz Panwar, working as a professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Graphic Era Deemed University, after several months of research, has succeeded in preparing this membrane (a kind of dry membrane), which can be used for six to eight months. After that, it dissolves itself and ends. In this way, Dr. Wariz has given such a gift to the world, which will also save from pollution caused by polythene, etc., and will also be cheap. This membrane has been prepared in Graphic Era’s Polymer Sensor and Actuator Lab.

He said that the membrane is used for various purposes like purification of water, making electricity from industrial waste through biofuel cells, electric cars, various types of sensors. For this, till now commercial liquids like Ionic Liquid were being used, which are very expensive. Dr. Wariz informed that this membrane has been prepared by a special method from sugarcane juice available at very cheap rates. This membrane is ready at a cost of about 2 paise per square centimeter. In the case of industrial production, this cost will further reduce. However, at present, membranes are being made at more than eight times this cost.

The Central Government has registered a patent for this new technology for making membranes from sugarcane juice in the name of Graphic Era Deemed University. This patent has been granted to the Graphic Era for the next 20 years. Earlier, Dr. Wariz Panwar has prepared a polymer sensor from sugarcane juice, his patent has been registered in March 2021 by the Government of Australia in the name of Graphic Era Deemed University. Congratulating Dr. Wariz Panwar, Chairman, Graphic Era Educational Group, Dr. Kamal Ghanshala, said that the laboratories of Graphic Era, equipped with the world’s latest technologies, open new possibilities to move forward, and through new discoveries, the faculty here can make their mark in the world. Talent is booming.
