Single use plastic will be banned in Uttarakhand from July 1. If it is used despite the ban, then a fine of up to ₹ 5000 will be charged. In this regard, after the order of the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the Urban Development Department has also issued guidelines.

The Union Forest and Environment Ministry has banned the production, import, storage, sale and use of single-use plastics only last year. 66 bodies of the state have announced a ban on single-use plastic, the remaining bodies have been asked to do so by June 28. From July 1, the bodies have been asked to conduct challan and seizure drives.

In-charge Secretary Urban Development VK Suman has said that from July 1, 2022, plastic ear buds, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, polystyrene decorative materials will be banned. Apart from this, cutlery like plastic plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, straws, plastic film wrapping sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packs, banners made of plastic less than 100 microns thick will be banned.
