WhatsApp’s latest beta update for iPhone brings the much-awaited QR code support. The feature has been in development for quite some. The QR codes will allow users to easily add new contacts. The functionality is said to be quite similar to how the nametag feature works on Instagram.

According to WABetainfo, the QR Code feature will soon be available on WhatsApp for Android as well. The website has also shared some screenshots of what the feature may look like. The QR Code feature will appear next to your DP name and status under the Settings. When you tap on the relevant icon, it will show a QR code which “your friends can scan or upload.”

If rolled out, it will join WhatsApp’s existing share contact feature which is available through attachment. The QR Code feature, however, appears more relevant for WhatsApp Business users who want to quickly share their contacts to more number of users.

That said, WhatsApp already uses QR technology. The app allows you to scan a QR code on the desktop browser to mirror your WhatsApp app. According to reports, the feature could be extended to allow users to add more devices with single account. Right now, you can use your WhatsApp account on one device (and one window for WhatsApp Web).
