Spotify has started rolling out real-time lyrics in India. Spotify has partnered with Musixmatch for lyrics support on its platform.

Spotify launched lyrics in 22 markets including India, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Hong Kong. The launch took place last night first reported by TechCrunch. In India however, it’s going to be a gradual rollout and lyrics are currently appearing only for select songs.

“I can confirm that we are gradually rolling out a Lyrics experience in India,” a Spotify spokesperson said.

This isn’t the first time Spotify has introduced support for lyrics. It has been offering lyrics via other providers in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Mexico. It also shows a “Behind the lyrics” section in partnership with Genius. Spotify started testing real-time lyrics last year and confirmed it in November.

Real-time lyrics on Spotify are slightly different than how it works on Apple Music. It doesn’t take up the entire screen and instead shows up in a box at the bottom. It displays up to eight lines of lyrics in the box and as the song plays the lyrics get updated. It basically takes up the space where Spotify shows its Behind the lyrics section from Genius. If a song you’re playing on Spotify has lyrics you’ll see the box at the bottom. Just scroll up to pull the lyrics box.

Since this is a gradual rollout, only a few songs support lyrics on Spotify. We found that lyrics are available for BTS tracks like Stay Gold, Euphoria and Boy With Luv. More songs like Dance Monkey, Watermelon Sugar, Sunday Beat and Circles have been updated with lyrics.
