Snapchat has started allowing creators to show the number of subscribers they have on the platform. This is a big move for Snapchat as the company has so far stayed away from displaying such numbers. It’s also surprising considering the fact that Snapchat has maintained that it’s an app for close friends without the social media inhibitions.

Snapchat’s new update is now visible on the app, and it shows for all creators, Snap Stars as the company likes to call them, on the platform. Content from Snapchat creators are displayed on the Discover section. You can also search for any creator through the app’s search tool. In this search section, Snapchat will also show the popular Snap Stars.

Once you tap on the Snapchat creator’s profile, the number of subscribers will be displayed just below the username. You can also choose to subscribe to that creator or celebrity by hitting the subscribe button below. This new update also makes it interesting to see how the subscriber ranking of popular creators and celebrities are on different platforms. For example, Kylie Jenner has 199 million followers on Instagram, and 36.4 million subscribers on Snapchat. It’s worth noting that Instagram has more users than Snapchat. Another example is TikTok celebrity Charli D’Amelio who has 13.8 million subscribers on Snapchat, and 32.3 million followers on Instagram.

Snapchat said the reason behind making subscriber numbers public has been through feedback from the creator community. “We’ve listened to feedback from our creator community and many of them expressed interest in having the option to show that their community on Snapchat is growing,” a Snapchat spokesperson was quoted as saying by The Verge.

Snapchat is going big on content and partnerships with brands and creators. It has also doubled down its focus in India where it recently said the Discover section has grown by 200%. Snapchat also launched a buncnew series, and a Hindi adaptation of its most popular Snap Original, Phone Swap.
