External storage has been improving over the years but nothing comes close to the speed and storage size of a portable SSD. We’ve seen a new wave of external SSDs launching but Samsung just took the cake with its latest offering. The South Korean company launched a new T7 Touch external SSD that has a fingerprint reader built-in for added security.

Previous Samsung SSDs came with a password client that would protect the content of the SSD, however, now, it comes with a fingerprint reader that can be accessed from the body of the SSD itself.

Having a fingerprint reader is certainly a very clever idea especially if you want to protect your data and the SSD from theft. The new SSD is called the T7 Touch and it can read up to four fingerprints so that users can share the SSD with trusted users.

The body of the SSD is made of aluminium and Samsung claims it is drop resistant up to two meters. In terms of ports, there is only one USB-C port that can be accessed via a USB-C to USB-C cable or a USB-C to USB-A cable. It is worthy to note that the read and write speeds will be slower when using a USB-A cable.

Speaking of the read and write speeds, the T7 touch is able to write speeds up to 1,000MB/s and read up to 1,050MB/s. To put things into perspective, that’s twice as fast as the T5 portable we reviewed a while ago.
