Netflix India’s partnership with Reliance Jio is expected to have helped the video streaming giant to gain grounds in India and in Asia.

As per a report by research firm Media Partners Asia (via ANI), Netflix is expected to end the year with 4.6 million paid subscribers in India by the end of 2020. The company’s average revenue per user (ARPU) is expected to stand a little higher at around $5 ( 372 approximately) per month.

The OTT service provider is expected to end the year with $2.4 billion of revenue from the Asia-Pacific region. This would be approximately 10% of the company’s total revenue globally, the research firm said.

Reliance Jio partnered with Netflix India to offer a free mobile-only subscription to the telecom giant’s postpaid subscribers, at plans starting at 399 per month back in September. The Reliance Jio postpaid subscribers were also offered an option to upgrade to traditional plans. In addition to this, Netflix also hard-bundled its subscription service with Jio’s fixed broadband service.

Notably, the research by MPA shows the net subscriber growth of Netflix slowing to 1 million in the third quarter of 2020 owing to the pandemic. However, the partnership with Reliance Jio is expected to have a positive impact on the OTT service and bolster these numbers by the end of the year.
