PUBG Mobile was banned in India last month along with 117 more Chinese-linked apps. This included both PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite. Following the government order, PUBG Mobile was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store. The game could still be played for those who had it installed on their phones. PUBG Mobile has now announced that it will stop functioning in India from today onwards.
PUBG Mobile in its Facebook page made the announcement late Thursday. It said that “Tencent Games will terminate all service and access for users in India to PUBG MOBILE Nordic Map: Livik and PUBG MOBILE Lite (together, “PUBG Mobile”) on October 30,2020.”
PUBG Mobile also highlighted that it protected user privacy and data. The Indian government banned this mobile game and other Chinese apps citing reasons of privacy and security.
“Protecting user data has always been a top priority and we have always complied with applicable data protection laws and regulations in India. All users’ gameplay information is processed in a transparent manner as disclosed in our privacy policy,” the company said in its statement.
PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite can no longer be played in India. Post the ban, both games removed from the app stores. What would have followed was blocking access to the game in India but this didn’t happen, and for a very long time as compared to TikTok and the first batch of banned apps. During this time there were reports of PUBG Mobile possibly partnering with telcos like Airtel and Reliance Jio to relaunch its services in India. PUBG Corp even posted a job opening in India which got fans excited. But all of that’s put to rest now as PUBG Mobile has finally cleared the air.
