The SolarWinds hack appears to have affected more companies than earlier anticipated. Nvidia and Intel are the latest to join this growing list of organisations that have been affected by the massive hacking campaign allegedly linked to Russia.
Intel said it is investigating whether it has been affected by the hacking campaign. “We are still actively investigating, but we currently see no evidence or indication that our systems were affected,” the company said in a statement.
Nvidia also said that it is looking into the matter. The company added that it discovered no evidence of its systems getting affected.
According to a WSJ report, at least two dozen companies including the likes of Cisco, Belkin, Nvidia, and Intel have used SolarWinds’ compromised Orion software. The report said that the affected software gave hackers “potential access to much sensitive corporate and personal data.”
Just like Nvidia and Intel, Belkin and Cisco have also said that they have found no negative impact of the compromised software.
It is worth noting that SolarWinds’ services are used by various companies as well as government agencies. The company has confirmed as many as 18,000 customers were using the compromised version of its Orion software.
Apart from private organisations, reports suggest various US government department and individuals were targeted by hackers in the widespread hacking attack.
“According to Treasury staff, the agency suffered a serious breach, beginning in July, the full depth of which isn’t known,” Senator Ron Wyden told Bloomberg. Microsoft Corp. earlier this week had informed the US Treasury that dozens of email accounts were compromised. The hackers reportedly targeted systems in the Treasury’s Departmental Offices unit. The IRS does not appear to be affected by the attack, thus far.
