Microsoft’s Windows updates are infamous for causing various kinds of problems. The latest Windows 10 security update that was rolled out on August 11 is reportedly failing to install for several users.
The new updates are affecting laptops and PCs which run the November 2019 Update (2019) and May 2020 Update (2004), according to a report by Windows Latest. This is for the Windows 10 KB4565351 and KB4566782 updates which show error messages of the updates failing to install on the system. The error messages mention mostly 0x800f081f as the error code. This could be due to “missing files in the WinSXS folder that stores different copies of DLL and system files”, the report adds.
Based on complaints shared by users, the new Windows 10 update is causing systems to restart, rotate on a black screen and even rebooting doesn’t help with the installation. There are other issues these updates are causing, the Windows 10 KB4565351 in particular. Some users have pointed out audio issues on installing the update. The audio drivers immediately crash and stop working. Windows 10 users have been reporting the same issues on Twitter, Reddit, and Microsoft’s community forum.
Microsoft hasn’t fixed these issues yet but for those affected by it can pause the new updates on their systems. This can be done by going to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Pause updates. Another way is to fix the error code 0x800f081f as detailed in the report. For this users have to go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website, enter the update package number and highlight the correct version for your PC. Then download the update package by clicking on the .msu link, and double-click it to apply. Then simply reboot the system.
