Dehradun: Uttarakhand badminton star Lakshya Sen got knocked out of the second round of the men’s singles category at the All England Badminton Championship in Birmingham on Thursday. Sen (world ranking 29) lost straight sets to Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen (world ranking 7) by 21-17 and 21-18
Sen was the only player from the Indian contingent to have advanced to the second round of the men’s singles event. The Almora-born shuttler had defeated Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu by 17-21, 21-8 and 21-17 in his first round match.
It is worth mentioning that Sen’s performance in the upcoming international tournaments will decide if he will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 or not. However, some of the upcoming badminton events are likely to get cancelled in view of the Coronavirus scare.
