Instagram has announced new features for live videos on its platform. The time limit for Instagram Lives have been increased to four hours, and users can now save their live videos for 30 days. Instagram is also giving live videos a bigger presence on the app.

Instagram currently lets users broadcast live videos for 60 minutes. The duration has now been increased to four hours. The new feature is live for all users globally. Instagram Lives have seen an increase ever since lockdowns started due to the pandemic. Just at the start of the lockdown there was a 60% increase in Instagram Live views in India.

Instagram is also giving users the option to save their live videos 30 days before they are deleted. Instagram Live videos will be available under ‘Live Archive’, and it will be visible only to you. During the 30-day period, you can either save your Instagram Live or upload it to your IGTV.

There’s also a new ‘Live Now’ section added to the IGTV app and the ‘Explore’ section on Instagram. The Live Now section will appear on top of the Explore page along with other sections like IGTV and For You. In case you’ve forgotten, the Explore button is now on the top-right corner of the screen just next to the new Messenger button that has replaced Direct on Instagram.

Instagram’s latest features reiterate the company’s push for videos. Including live videos, Instagram also has IGTV and Reels as well. It recently expanded badges in live videos for creators in more countries. Badges help creators earn as viewers can purchase them during their live broadcasts.
