Google has rolled out support for editing Office files on the iOS version of its Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The functionality was so far available on the web and Android.

Google’s new feature is also available to both end and enterprise users of Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Eligible apps are Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus as well as G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits customers.

The purpose of the new functionality is to allow Google users to edit Microsoft Office files in a familiar interface. As 9to5Google points out, Google users may receive MS Office files, say documents, from someone else. Instead of editing or working on the file separately, the functionality will allow users to use Google’s productivity tools. No need to download anything extra.

The new functionality also succeeds the Office Compatibility Mode which had basic features. Google users can now work on Word (.doc, .docx, .dot), Excel (.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm (macro enabled Excel files), .xlt), and Powerpoint (.ppt, .pptx, .pps, .pot).

Separately, Google is testing its Task Mate in India. The application allows users to make money by doing some simple tasks. The money also gets credited into your bank account. Some of the tasks listed on the app are recording clips of certain phrases, taking photos of shop fronts, transcribing sentences, checking shop details etc. to earn rewards.
