Indian Test and ODI cricket team captain Virat Kohli has given a statement regarding Team India’s tour of South Africa.
He said that the decision regarding the South African tour will be taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in a day or two. However, according to media reports, this tour can be postponed for a week. But no official statement has been issued by the BCCI regarding this tour so far. India is scheduled to face South Africa in 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and 4 T20 Internationals from December 17 to January 26, but the entire tour may be postponed by a week as BCCI has asked Cricket South Africa to postpone it. It is being said that the BCCI wants more time to discuss the threat of this new Kovid-19 Omicron.
Speaking on the upcoming tour of South Africa, Virat Kohli said, “It is quite natural. We are not playing in normal time. There has been a lot of conversation. We have spoken to all the senior players and Rahul bhai (Rahul Dravid) has kept us in the loop. We have been talking about this.It is important that we do not remain in any confusion. We should know about the tour in a day or two. We are all working hard towards a common goal.” The attention of the Indian board and players is currently on the tour of South Africa, provided that the situation of Kovid does not worsen. The BCCI wants to wait and see how the Omicron threat develops over the next few days. The Board is in constant touch with the Government of India and the CSA regarding the future of the South Africa tour. Both the BCCI and Cricket South Africa (CSA) are keen to go ahead with the tour despite the growing concerns about the new Kovid variant. Notably, the board has not recalled the India A team, which is currently playing 3 4-day unofficial Test matches against the hosts in Bloemfontein. After the completion of the second Test against New Zealand in Mumbai, India was to leave for South Africa on December 8 or 9, but some media reports are now saying that the team is likely to leave only on December 15 or 16. . The BCCI will discuss South Africa’s tour of India at its AGM in Kolkata on Saturday and a decision is expected to be taken by Sunday.
