Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf (66), who was part of the ICC’s elite panel, died in Lahore on Wednesday. It is being told that he died due to cardiac arrest.
This news has been confirmed by his brother Tahir. The former umpire’s brother has told that before his death, he was going home after closing his shop, but suddenly he suffered a cardiac arrest, and he could not survive.
Rauf was a member of the ICC’s Elite Umpire Panel from 2006 to 2013. He was also accused of being involved in match-fixing and spot-fixing. In February 2016, Rauf was found guilty of corruption by the BCCI.
Because of which he was banned from cricket for five years. The Pakistani umpire was formally found accused by the Mumbai Police in the 2013 IPL betting scandal.
Let us tell you that Asad Rauf umpired in a total of 231 matches of international cricket. It included 64 Tests, 28 T20s and 139 ODIs. The Pakistani umpire had retired from all forms of umpiring in the year 2013.
