Movies and TV serials are often shown about cursed temples. But, do you know that there is such a temple in real life too, which is considered to be cursed. This is a Hathiya Deval temple located in the town Thal of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.

There is a legend famous among the local people about an elephant Deval. According to this, a sculptor lived in this village, who used to cut stones and make idols. Going ahead, one of his hands got damaged in an accident.

The sculptor wanted to make idols with the help of one hand, but some villagers used to make fun of him that what would he be able to do with one hand? Tired of these remarks, the sculptor decided that he would leave this village and settle in some other village.

Temple built overnight
One night the sculptor set out towards the southern end of the village, locating his chisel, hammer and other tools. This place was used by the villagers for defecation etc. There was a big rock here.

The next morning when the people of the village went in that direction for defecation etc., they found that someone had cut the rock overnight and gave it the form of a temple. Seeing this, everyone’s eyes were torn apart. All the villagers gathered there.

Artisan not found
Despite a lot of searching the villagers could not find the artisan whose one hand was chopped off. All the villagers went to the village looking for him and asked each other about him, but nothing could be found about the sculptor.

When the local pundits saw the Shivling and the idol carved inside that temple, it came to know that the Argha of the Shivling has been made in the opposite direction due to the hasty construction in the night, whose worship will not be fruitful, but the worship of the defective idol is also harmful. could.

It is worth noting that in this temple of Lord Shiva, a wonderful specimen of sculpture is seen, but due to the Argha of the Shivling located in the temple being in the opposite direction, people come here only to have darshan and return without worshiping.
