he Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea from one of Nirbhaya’s rapists claiming he was a juvenile when he and five others gangraped the paramedic student in December 2012.
The petition had been rejected by the trial court and wasn’t raised before the Supreme Court.
A fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed on the convict’s lawyer, AP Singh, for failing to appear despite repeated calls.
Four of Nirbhaya’s rapists are on death row.
Another killed himself in jail and the sixth, a juvenile, was released from a reformation home after serving a three-year term.
SUPREME COURT REJECTS FINAL REVIEW PLEA
Yesterday, the Supreme Court rejected a review plea filed by Akshay Kumar Singh, another convict on death row, who made the absurd argument that air and water pollution in Delhi somehow made the death penalty pointless.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said yesterday that the convicts were making concerted efforts to delay the “inevitable”.
Meanwhile, the Patiala House court adjourned for January 7 a hearing on the issuance of death warrants against the convicts.
The city court gave a week’s time to know whether the four convicts were filing mercy petitions.
