The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court here has pronounced accused Adnan Hassan guilty in the case related to the ISIS Abu Dhabi module.
The court has convicted him under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
“The case pertains to the criminal conspiracy involving three Indian nationals – Sheikh Azhar Al Islam Sattar Sheikh, Mohammed Farhan Mohammed Rafiq Shaikh, and Adnan Hassan. These individuals are members of the proscribed terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), along with other unidentified associates. Their conspiracy aimed at identifying, motivating, radicalizing, recruiting, and training susceptible youth for the planning and execution of terrorist attacks,” the NIA said in a statement.

The NIA Special Court, in the national capital, on October 9, 2023, sentenced accused Adnan Hassan, in the above-mentioned ISIS recruitment and funding case. Hassan has been sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment for his active involvement in the matter, under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. In addition to the prison term, he has been fined Rs 4000.
Initially, NIA registered a case on January 28, 2016, under relevant sections of the IPC and UA(P) Act, as per the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The investigation has revealed that accused Adnan Hassan used a variety of online platforms and methods, including posts, news articles, comments, videos, images, and the commentary of Islamic scholars, to motivate individuals to join ISIS. He also provided financial support to the accused Abdullah Basith and other associates.
Accused Adnan Hassan was arrested on January 29, 2016, for his affiliation with ISIS and furthering its activities in India.
Subsequently, on the basis of evidence, a Charge sheet was filed on July 25, 2016, against accused Adnan Hassan under relevant sections of the UA (P) Act and IPC before the NIA Special Court, New Delhi. (ANI)
