Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Aditayanth has been ranked as the best performing chief minister in India in the latest India Today -Karvy Insights Mood of the Nation (MOTN) survey.
Yogi Adityanath managed to secure 24 per cent of the total votes (6 percentage points up from the last survey), becoming “the best CM” for the third time in a row, according to the recent MOTN survey. This comes even as the Uttar Pradesh government under Adityanath faces backlash over the recent spate of kidnapping and murder incidents in the state.
According to the latest survey, six of the seven top-performing chief ministers are from non-BJP and non-Congress parties. Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal), who has previously been ranked as the number one CM for three times in a row, has slipped to the fourth position (with 9 per cent votes) after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal (15 per cent votes) and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (11 per cent votes).
In the January 2020 MOTN survey, Yogi Adityanath, with 18 per cent votes, had defeated joint runners-up Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee, who secured 11 per cent votes each.
In the August 2019 survey as well, Yogi Adityanath was way ahead of other chief ministers. He had then dethroned Mamata Banerjee who had achieved the top rank in the MOTN survey conducted in January 2019.
THE METHODOLOGY
The MOTN poll was conducted by a Delhi-based market research agency between July 15, 2020, and July 27, 2020.
This poll has traditionally been conducted using face-to-face interviewing method. However, in this edition of the survey, due to the unprecedented situation arising out of Covid-19 pandemic, all interviews were conducted telephonically using a standard structured questionnaire, which was translated into regional languages.
A total of 12,021 interviews were conducted — 67 per cent in rural and 33 per cent in urban areas — spread across 97 parliamentary constituencies and 194 assembly constituencies in 19 states — Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
