A 28-year-old man from Karnataka, Srinivasa Gowda, is making waves all across social media as he allegedly covered a distance of 100 meters in just 9.55 seconds. Gowda did so during Kambala – a traditional sport of running with the bulls – where he plays the role of a Kambala jockey. In total, he covered a distance of 142.5 meters in 13.62 seconds to emerge as the fastest runner in the history of the sport.

Kambala, the traditional name of the sport, takes place in the state’s Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts among the farming communities. Gowda is being massively hailed by the local media for his incredible sprint and the news has since gone viral

One of the referees of the event, Vijay Kumar Kanginamane, has revealed that Gowda has bagged a total of 29 prizes in 12 Kambalas already and holds the record of winning prizes in all the four categories of the Aikala event.

It has also been learned that Gowda is a school dropout and works as a construction labourer during the off-season. His interest in Kambala started to gain its peak 5-6 years ago and now, he is making his name known as no one else has.

As for the sports, the Kambala jockeys earn somewhere between 1 and 2 lakh to train the buffaloes and compete with them in the competition. Cash rewards from owners as and when their buffaloes win are also given.

The Usain Bolt World Record:

Legendary Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt, holds the record of covering the 100m distance in the least amount of time at 9.58 seconds. He had achieved the feat during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. During the event, his top-speed was clocked at 27.8 miles per hour.

As for Gowda’s reported time of 9.55 seconds to cover 100 meters, it should be noted that the Karnataka man’s sprint was also aided by the pull of the bulls which would also have contributed towards him setting such a stunning record.
