Terming the Women’s reservation bill as “anti-women” and “election jumla”, Aam Admi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that the “true character” of the Bharatiya Janata party is “anti-women”.
“This bill was pending for 20 to 25 years and will still not be implemented in the coming 20 to 25 years. There is a deliberate clause inserted in this bill that, first a Census will be done then delimitation and then the reservation would be given.”
“If you have the intention is for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, then you should implement in 2024 elections…This is not a bill for reservation for women but to make them fools…The true character of the BJP is anti-women…This bill is just an election ‘jumla’…” the AAP MP told ANI.
Terming it as a “major step”, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday moved the Women’s Reservation Bill for discussion in Rajya Sabha.
“Through the Constitutional Amendment Bill that I have brought today, a section will inserted in Article 330, Article 332 and Article 334. Through these, 1/3rd of the seats will be reserved in Lok Sabha and all State Assemblies of the country. This is a major step,” the Minister said.
The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ is the first bill passed by Lok Sabha during the special session after it shifted to the new Parliament building on Tuesday.
The bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday in the first sitting of the House in the new Parliament building.
The five-day Special Session of Parliament began on Monday and will conclude on Friday. (ANI)
