On Tuesday 27 April,The Election Commission of India (ECI) bans all victory processions on or after vote counting on May 2 in view of the rise in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases.

A detailed government order will follow soon, sources privy to the information said.

The Madras high court had on Monday held the Election Commission as “singularly responsible” for the second wave of Covid-19 in India. Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee even went to the extent of noting that E officials should probably be “booked on murder charges” for allowing political rallies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
