In a major boost to the Indian Navy, the indigenously designed and developed Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) underwent two successful launches on Monday.

The VL-SRSAM, developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is capable of neutralising various aerial threats at close ranges.

“Indigenously designed & developed Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) by DRDO for Indian Navy has undergone two successful launches today. The missile is capable of neutralizing various aerial threats at close ranges,” DRDO tweeted.

The launches of the indigenously designed and developed missile system were carried out from a static vertical launcher from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.

“The current launches were carried out for demonstration of vertical launch capability as part of its maiden launch campaign. On both occasions, the missiles intercepted the simulated targets with pinpoint accuracy. The missiles were tested for minimum and maximum range. VL-SRSAM with Weapon Control System (WCS) were deployed during the trials,” a Defence Ministry statement said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO on the successful trials of VL-SRSAM missile sysytem.

India successfully test fires Helina, Dhruvastra anti-tank guided missiles

In a major boost to Modi government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission, India on February 19 successfully test-fired Helina, Dhruvastra anti-tank guided missiles. While Helina will be inducted into the Indian Army, Dhruvastra will be used by the Indian Air force (IAF).

The trials for Helina and Dhruvastra Missile Systems were carried out from Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) platform at Pokhran deserts in Rajasthan. The missile systems have been designed and developed indigenously by DRDO.

“The Helina and Dhruvastra are third generation, Lock on Before Launch (LOBL) fire and forget Anti-Tank Guided Missiles that can engage targets both in direct hit mode as well as top attack mode. The system has all-weather day and night capability and can defeat battle tanks with conventional armour as well as with explosive reactive armour. It is one of the most-advanced anti-tank weapons in the world. Now, the missile systems are ready for induction,” the ministry said in its statement.
