India on Monday reported 281,386 fresh Covid-19 cases to take total infections to 24,965,463, according to data from the health ministry. The country recorded 4,106 deaths in the last 24 hours to take total fatalities to 274,390. New cases fell below 300,000 after 25 days as the country seeks to scale up vaccinations.

The world’s worst coronavirus outbreak is set to stretch the already strained budgets of Indian states, making it more costly to borrow just when they need the money to cushion their economies.
