Two unidentified terrorists were killed by security forces in an encounter on Tuesday night in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and J-K police launched a joint cordon-and-search operation at Machama in Chadoora area of Budgam district around 7pm on Tuesday following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

The operation turned into an encounter around after militants opened fire at security forces positions, he added.

The terrorists were killed in the gunbattle which lasted nearly four hours. They were associated with the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), the official said, adding that there was a possibility that one of them was local.
