All schools and colleges in Punjab would now remain closed till April 10, 2021. As per the latest notice released by the Punjab Government, the closure of all educational instiutions have been extended. Earlier, the government had closed the schools, colleges and all educational institutions in the state till March 31.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday ordered extension of all the restrictions that had been put in place in the state on March 17. This order is applicable for all private, government and aided schools as well as coaching classes, polytechnic institutes and degree collleges and universities.

Punjab is among the top 6 states reeling from a particularly rapid ‘second’ wave of infections. In the last 24 hours, Punjab reported as many as 2868 new infections, taking the total active cases to 24143 as of March 30, 2021. The state also reported 59 deaths on March 29.

With the infections rising steadily, the state had decided on March 19 to close all schools and colleges. The Punjab School Education Board, PSEB had also postponed the Board examinations for classes 10 and 12. Earlier scheduled exams of Class 10 were postponed from April 9 to May 4 while the Class 12 exams scheduled from March 22 were pushed to April 20.

There is no further change announced as yet in the board examination schedule. Decision on reopening of schools would be reviewed on April 10.
