A sub-inspector (S-I) is said to have served in the UP Police force for over 40 years after getting inducted as a constable allegedly using fake documents, officials said on Saturday.

The sub-inspector named Namo Narain, who got inducted into the police force after appearing in the constable recruitment process in Shahjahanpur in April 1979, is presently posted in Prayagaraj after having been promoted as sub-inspector a few years ago. An inquiry was initiated against him when he was posted at Lucknow Reserve Police Lines in 2011.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Lucknow, Kalanidhi Naithani said the sub-inspector has been placed under suspension after it was established recently in a departmental enquiry that he used fake high school mark-sheet and transfer certificate of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Intermediate College of Mau district.

He said recommendation for the sub-inspector’s termination has been sent to senior authorities after registering an FIR of fraud and forgery against him in the matter.

The SSP said the enquiry against the S-I lasted for around eight years during which he was given multiple chances to prove his credentials but his documents were found forged when it was crosschecked with the concerned college in Mau.
