The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a smuggling attempt in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district and seized eyewear and footwear worth Rs 11 lakh, an official statement said on Tuesday.
As per the official statement, the seized consignment was being smuggled to Bangladesh from the international border in the district.
The consignment was seized by the BSF when the accused were trying to smuggle it into Bangladesh.

However, the accused succeeded in fleeing away from the spot while taking advantage of the inclement weather and darkness, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the consignment was handed over to customs for further action, it said.
More details are awaited.
Earlier on Sunday, the Border Security Force apprehended a smuggler in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas with six gold biscuits weighing 699.920 grams while being smuggled from Bangladesh to India.
