In a shocking news, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj was shot dead at a tea stall for his remarks against the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi, reported news agency IANS.
According to IANS, the deceased has been identified as Lautan Nishad.
The incident took place at a tea stall in Prayagraj’s Kareli area on Sunday monring when the victim Nishad made a remark against the Tablighi Jamaat event that was organised that was organised at the Nizamuddin Markaz in New Delhi between March 12-15.
He was shot dead by accused identified as Mohammad Sona. The authorities arrested him immediately and an investigation is underway, reported IANS.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident and announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the family of the deceased.
Yogi Adityanath has also ordered that the accused be booked under the National Security Act (NSA). The Chief Minister has also sought an explanation as to why a tea stall was open during the lockdown. He has also ordered action against the guilty police personnel.
The Tablighi Jamaat event was organised in New Delhi from March 12-15. It became the centre of the coronavirus outbreak in the country after 1,023 COVID-19 patients in India were found linked to the event.
“Till now we have found cases related to Tableeghi Jamaat from 17 states, 1023 COVID-19 positive cases have been found to be linked to this event. Out of the total cases in the country, around 30 per cent are linked to one particular place,” Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said, as quoted by ANI.
In UP, the authorities have identified 1,302 people who attended Tablighi Jamaat and around 1,000 of them have been quarantined.
Of them, 307 have been identified in Meerut, 242 in Varanasi, 230 in Gorakhpur, 148 in Bareilly, 115 in Agra, 83 in Lucknow, 51 in Prayagraj, 33 in Kanpur, 23 in Lucknow Commissionerate, and 70 in Noida, said Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avnish Awasthi, as quoted by ANI.
