Tomorrow is Bakrid. In this regard, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has written a letter to the DGP directing him to ensure that cows are not slaughtered tomorrow.

Let us tell you that Narvekar has recently become the Speaker of the Assembly in the Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis government.

Cow slaughter is a crime in Maharashtra. It was banned by the BJP-Shiv Sena government. Anyone who sells and possesses cow meat can be punished with imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of up to ten thousand. However, slaughter of calves and cows can be done by obtaining a certificate of ‘fit to slaughter’ from the local administration.

Earlier, Lok Sabha MP and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has appealed not to sacrifice cows during Eid-ul-Adha.
