A 27-year-old fitness trainer has been arrested for allegedly stalking a 30-year-old Ayurveda doctor from Mumbai on Instagram by making multiple fake profiles and posting lewd comments, police have said.

The trainer was traced and arrested from Nagpur on Friday by police from Mumbai’s Charkop, a locality in the suburb of Kandivali (West).

Charkop Police said the complainant had lodged a first information report (FIR) on June 12 last year against Abhishek Dutta under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the information act.

The complainant said Dutta used to make derogatory comments on her photos on Instagram and she had told him over chat not to post them. But Dutta used derogatory comments in the chat and she blocked him. The accused also used photos of the complainant to make multiple stories on Instagram with derogatory comments.

After that, Dutta made a new profile and started posting defamatory and lewd comments again. The complainant blocked his second profile as well and managed to find his mobile number and asked one of her friends to call Dutta.

The complainant’s friend asked Dutta not to make comments on her Instagram but Dutta abused him as well and continued to create Instagram profiles to make derogatory and lewd comments on her profile.

She then approached the police and lodged an FIR against him.

Charkop Police said it was difficult to track down Dutta as he was not known to the complainant and that they traced him based on technical evidence.

“We are finding out if Dutta has a previous criminal record. He was produced before a magistrate court on Friday and has been remanded to judicial custody,” an official said
