Skoda India on Tuesday unveiled the much awaited Vision IN compact SUV in the country in a bid to challenge established players in the highly lucrative as well as competitive segment. The Czech company will officially launch the car at a later date in the year.

Based on the company’s new MQB-A0-IN platform, Vision IN is Skoda’s show of intent in not just the compact SUV segment but also gives a clear glimpse into the plans of the company as far as the larger SUV segment of vehicles are concerned. A large front grille with LED illumination and featuring double slats made of lead crystal, LED head lights, strong character lines on the side body, diamond-cut alloys, aluminium front spoiler and rear diffuser, matt anthracite side trims and a wide profile highlight the Vision IN from the outside.

Skoda says the wheelbase of Vision IN allows for more space for passengers on the inside, when compared to some of its direct rivals.

On the inside, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch central display, Virtual Cockpit, seats made of rhubarb leather and orange oak leather and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Skoda claims that there is ample space for passengers on the inside thanks to the long wheelbase of the car and that adequate storage space has also been provided.

The Orange colour in which the Vision IN was presented made it look quite striking but what is under the hood could well define what the car is all about. The Vision IN will get a 1.5-litre TSI engine delivering 150PS and 250Nm of peak torque. This is mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission unit.

The Vision IN is a prominent part of Skoda-Volkswagen group’s India 2.0 mission by which it is aiming at a greater share of the overall auto market. The company is also looking at ramping up investment and says it will launch ‘the right products at the right time’ to strike a chord with prospective buyers. The Vision IN, as well as several other vehicles, will be showcased at Auto Expo 2020 which begins from February 7.
