Petrol and diesel prices were hiked on Tuesdsay, the third straight daily increase in fuel prices after Public Sector oil companies ended 82-day hiatus in rate revision, reports news agency PTI.

The hike comes amid a surge in international crude prices after the producers’ cartel decided to extend record output cuts by one more month till the end of July.

In Delhi, petrol will now cost Rs 73 per litre as against Rs 72.46, while diesel rates have been increased to Rs 71.17 a litre from Rs 70.59, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

Retail prices of petrol and diesel were first raised by 60 paise a litre each on Sunday followed by similar hikes on Monday.

Oil PSUs – Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL)- had suspended daily price revisions and retail rates were frozen on March 16 soon after the government on March 14, hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per litre each.
