Those following Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset launches might be aware that the company launches its flagship Snapdragon 8xx series processors each year, followed by a slightly tweaked ‘Plus’ version after a few months. Last year we saw Snapdragon 865 and the 865+ coming later in the year. And before that, it was the Snapdragon 855 and 855+. More recently, Qualcomm has launched its Snapdragon 888 processor, which we will see in a lot of flagship smartphones in 2021. However, a new report now talks about the Snapdragon 888+ model, which might launch later this year.

According to a post by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Qualcomm may launch the Snapdragon 888+ processor in second half of this year. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about the chipset. However, it has been mentioned that the US-based chipmaker has kept the GPU frequency of Snapdragon 888 capped at 840MHz. So, the OEMs won’t be able to overclock it on their devices. This also means that the rumoured Snapdragon 888+ might come with a minor upgrade over the Snapdragon 888.

It might be a similar case ss the Snapdragon 865. For those unaware, the Snapdragon 865+ is claimed to deliver 10% performance boost over the Snapdragon 865. The GPU, which is Adreno 650, is said to be 10% faster than the one present in the original Snapdragon 865.

For now, Xiaomi Mi 11 is the only smartphone that comes with the Snapdragon 888 processor. The device has been launched in China and there is no information as to when it will be coming to other markets. We are also expecting to see Samsung Galaxy S21 models coming with Snapdragon 888 in the US and other select regions.
