Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal tests positive for Covid-19

Maharashtra Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. "I have been tested positive for COVID-19. Those who have come in contact with me should get themselves checked. My health is good and there is no reason to worry. All the citizens should take proper measures to prevent the coronavirus," Bhujbal tweeted in Marathi. Other than Chhagan Bhujbal, Jayant Patil, Rajesh Tope, Anil Deshmukh, Rajendra Shinqane, and Bachchu Kadu had recently tested positive for COVID-19. Maharashtra remains one of the worst affected states in the country with 54,149 active cases with 19,94,947 recoveries and 1,788 deaths so far.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has completed the acquisition of a 100 percent stake of Dighi Port Ltd (DPL) for Rs 705 crore. DPL, the 12th port to join APSEZ's string of economic gateways across the eastern and western coast of India will establish the company's footprint in Maharashtra, the largest contributor to India's GDP. "This will enable APSEZ to service customers in Maharashtra which includes the highly industrial areas and development in the Mumbai and Pune regions," the company said in a statement. Kerala and Maharashtra together contribute nearly 65 percent of the total active coronavirus caseload of the country, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday. India's active caseload has fallen to 1,84,182 today. The share of active cases in the total positive cases has further shrunk to 1.73 percent. Kerala accounts for 39.7 percent (73,121) of the active cases whereas Maharashtra contributes 25 percent (46,057) of the total active coronavirus cases. While addressing a press conference in Nagpur, Deshmukh said that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar will inaugurate jail tourism facility in Pune's Yerwada Jail on January 26. Covid-19 vaccination drive begins in Maharashtra along with the rest of the country

The Covid-19 vaccination drive began in Maharashtra on Saturday along with the rest of the country. Dr Ranjit Mankeshwar, Dean, JJ Hospital, in Mumbai and Dr Padmaja Saraf were among the first beneficiaries to receive the vaccine shots in Mumbai and at Jalna civil hospital, respectively. The inoculation drive is taking place at 285 centres in Maharashtra where 100 healthcare workers will be administered the shots in a day, and cover 28,500 workers, an official said. On June 27, Maharashtra reported 6,368 new Covid-19 cases (after reconciliation of 1,050 cases), a record single-day spike not only for the state, but for India as well. This was the fourth consecutive single-day spike record for the western state, India’s worst-affected region that has seen 164,626 cumulative cases.
