Janata Dal-United leader Pram Hans Kumar demanded that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar should make his entry in politics for the “betterment of the party and the state.”
Kumar, who is the party’s general secretary of Bihar, said Nishant Kumar is a “calm” and “far-sighted” leader and will work for the welfare of the state.
Speaking to ANI, the JDU leader said, “It is the demand of the time and situation that Nishant Kumar, the son of CM Nitish Kumar, should come ahead for the benefit of the party and the state.”
On being asked about Nitish Kumar’s earlier statements where he emphasised not bringing his family members into politics, the JDU leader said that if the son of a leader with a “clean image” wants to join politics, there is nothing wrong with it.
“Yes, what he says is true. The form of family politics that we oppose, is when a family is reaping benefits of power. But if a leader with a clean image has a son who wants to serve the country and the state honestly, then there is no problem. Nishant Kumar has this quality in abundance, he doesn’t like life of the limelight. He can serve the people of Bihar very well. He should definitely come into politics,” Kumar said.
The JDU leader claimed that it is not just his demand but that of a large section of the party as well as the state.
He further said the demand doesn’t mean that the party has become weak, but it is for the purpose of making the party stronger.”He (Nishant Kumar) will turn out to be a calm and far-sighted leader…people don’t know much about him because he doesn’t come much in public…These are not just my demand, but a large number of leaders in the party and people in the state want Nishant Kumar to join politics,” Pram Hans Kumar said.
“Demanding Nishant Kumar in politics doesn’t mean that our party has got weak so that the party can be further strengthened and state can be developed further,” he added.
On being asked about the speculations of Nitish Kumar joining the Union Cabinet, the JDU leader said, “I won’t like to comment on that, but my only demand is that Nishant Kumar should come into politics for the party and state.”
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Naredra Modi at his residence in the national capital on Monday.
This comes a day ahead of the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections tomorrow.
Nitish Kumar’s JDU contested the elections in alliance with the BJP. The former contested on 16 seats and the latter on 17.
Bihar sends 40 members to the Lok Sabha. The voting in the state took place in all seven phases of the polls.
Nitish Kumar, returned to NDA earlier this year and took oath as Bihar CM with BJP’s support, after leaving the alliance and joining Rashtriya Janata Dal-led ‘Mahagathbandhan’ in August 2022. (ANI)
