Budget session of Uttarakhand adjourned sine die; budget of Rs 57,400 crore passed

The six-day assembly session, which lasted 31 hours and 29 minutes, was adjourned sine die by Speaker Prem Chand Aggarwal on Saturday after a state budget of Rs 57,400 crore was passed in the House. A total of 630 questions were received by the House and nine bills were passed during the session. The budget session functioned for 31 hour 29 minutes. “Out of 186 starred questions, 50 were answered while 85 out of 352 unstarred questions were answered during the proceedings,” Aggarwal said. A total of 32 petitions were accepted. He added that 25 notices out of 28 received were forwarded. In the six-day session nine bills were passed. The chief wildlife warden (CWLW) of Uttarakhand JS Suhag on Wednesday told the high court (HC) that the denotification of Shivalik Elephant Reserve and the expansion of Jolly Grant Airport are two separate issues. He added that it is “just a coincidence that the 87 hectares of land which will be acquired for the expansion of the airport is part of the Shivalik reserve.” In the affidavit, the CWLW said that the denotification of the reserve does not have anything to do with the use of forest land for non-forestry purposes. Gairsain announced as third administrative division of Uttarakhand

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat sprung a major surprise during the budget assembly session by announcing Gairsain as a new administrative division in Uttarakhand. After Kumaon and Garhwal, Gairsain will now be the third commissionerate of the Himalayan state, the CM said. The commissionerate would comprise of four hill districts of Chamoli & Rudraprayag (from Garhwal) and Almora and Bageshwar (from Kumaon). Locals of Udham Singh Nagar’s Kichha area alleged that they have been duped of over Rs 10 crore during the Covid lockdown from March-end to October through fake ration cards.
