The Nainital High Court has asked the government to present an affidavit in the court by July 19 after hearing the petition filed in the matter of stay on the arrest of the suspended and arrested Additional Secretary Social Welfare Department Ram Vilas Yadav on charges of acquiring disproportionate assets.
The counsel for the petitioner told the single bench of senior justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari that Ramvilas Yadav is cooperating in the vigilance investigation. On the order of the court, the petitioners also appeared before the Vigilance late on Wednesday night, but the Vigilance arrested them.
It was said on behalf of the government that IAS Yadav is not cooperating in the investigation. He was called several times for investigation but he did not appear before the Vigilance. On his appearance, the Vigilance questioned him but he could not answer any of the questions correctly.
During the hearing held earlier, the court was told on behalf of the petitioner that the allegations against him of acquiring disproportionate assets are false. There are many criminal cases going on against the person who has filed the complaint against him. He was not even given a chance to present his case in this matter. The committee constituted by the government was dissolved even before presenting its side.
For information, let us tell you that IAS Ram Vilas Yadav was Additional Secretary in the Social Welfare Department of Uttarakhand. He was suspended in the disproportionate assets case. He has also been the secretary of Lucknow Development Authority. A complaint was lodged against him in Lucknow by a person for possessing assets disproportionate to his income.
Based on this, the Uttarakhand government started investigation. The Vigilance team raided their locations in Lucknow, Dehradun and Ghazipur, in which many important documents related to the property were found. In the investigation, assets more than 500 times the income were found. Based on this, the government had registered a case against him. Yadav had filed a petition in the High Court seeking a stay on his arrest.
