WhatsApp has been working on new storage optimisations for its users. The storage section is revamped with new features for better storage management. This feature has now started rolling out to WhatsApp beta users on Android.

WhatsApp beta users should start seeing the new storage feature soon, WABetaInfo reported. Those who are not on the beta version can enroll through WhatsApp’s beta programme. The new WhatsApp beta update is version 2.20.201.9. In the current storage section on WhatsApp, users have the option to open individual chats and check the amount of storage consumed by different media files.

In the new storage section, WhatsApp displays a modern storage bar indicating the amount of space used by media files. It shows the storage occupied by WhatsApp media and other files. WhatsApp also lets you review all shared files and sort them out by newest, oldest or size. It also suggests deleting the unnecessary shared files. There’s a category for forwarded files, and one for large files. The last section in the updated storage section shows the list of chats with the ability to search for a specific chat.

With the updated storage section it will become much easier to sort and optimise storage on WhatsApp. This app is heavily used for personal and sometimes work communication too. It also involves sharing photos, videos, GIFs and more files on a regular basis. The new update is rolling out to Android beta users, and some have started receiving it already. There’s no word on when WhatsApp will make this available to all users including those on iOS.
