CBI seeks NIA court’s nod to question suspended cop Sachin Waze

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed an application before the special NIA court seeking permission to question suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze in connection with the corruption allegations against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh as part of its preliminary inquiry. This comes a day after the CBI registered a preliminary inquiry in connection with the Bombay High Court order to probe allegations of corruption levelled against Deshmukh. The high court had directed the CBI to start a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into allegations. The National Investigating Agency (NIA) will present Sachin Waze, an assistant police inspector with the Mumbai Police who was arrested in connection with the investigation into the recovery of explosives from a car parked near Mukesh Ambani's house in Mumbai, before a special court on Sunday to demand his custody. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of the case of Hidayatullah Malik, chief of Lashkar-e-Mustafa terror organisation, who was planning a major attack in Jammu city. He was arrested on February 6. The NIA on Tuesday registered a case relating to the conspiracy by frontal running terror organization Lashkar-e-Mustafa working at the behest of proscribed terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed to carry out terrorist activities in the Jammu area with the aim of threatening the sovereignty, integrity, and security of India. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe involving Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Deputy Superintendent Davinder Singh who was caught with two terrorists on January 10. On Thursday, the Union home ministry had asked the NIA to start the probe into Singh’s case to take a hard and close look at his involvement with terror groups. Davinder Singh was intercepted when he was travelling on the national highway to Jammu along with two Hizbul Mujahideen commanders Naveed Babu, Rafi Ahmed Rather, according to the security establishment.
